Working extensively with steel mills, researchers at System Seals began to see AGC control systems exhibit higher cylinder pressures as these new systems become more integrated into the mills. With the high clearances of the cylinder components, the changes increased the vulnerability for extrusion. So the company’s application engineers went to work developing a new generation of heavy-duty seals.

The System Seals 188 Series Rod Seal is a heavy-duty, low-friction design made of PTFE compound with a profiled energizer and an integrated backup ring. It’s specifically designed for large diameter and challenging applications under high pressure and large extrusion gaps.

System Seals can machine the 188 up to 2100mm and customize it for specific applications. The new seal was the product of Finite Element Analysis and extensive testing in the System Seals R&D lab.

Put to work in various industries, the seal has performed flawlessly under some of the most demanding conditions, and it’s ideal for short-stroke, long-stroke and dithering applications. Talk to a System Seals engineer today about the 188 or any of the other new generation of technically advanced seals that can improve your unique operating conditions.
