Our Latest Success Story:  Leak-Free after 1,000,000 Cycles

We are proud to report that a seal inspection done during a routine maintenance tear-down for one of our prominent customers revealed that after approximately 1,000,000 cycles, the sealing system designed by System Seals was operating completely leak-free and at peak performance.

Located in Ontario, Canada, our customer specializes in automotive parts, an industry known for its aggressive and demanding applications, flawless results, and as little downtime as possible.  The hydraulic sealing system designed by System Seals is being used on an automated injection-molding machine in an environment that requires both high-volume production and consistent quality.  These seals function as the main ram seals for a 2200 ton injection-molding machine that is devoted to manufacturing automotive front grill assemblies at the rate of 1 grill every 60 seconds.  This machine has been operating problem-free 5 days a week, 24 hours a day, for 3 years at a system pressure of 3500 psi.

The sealing system designed by System Seals for this application consists of two R90 Heavy Duty Rod Seals each paired with B01 spacer rings.  These seals have been designed specifically for demanding large-diameter applications that require low friction combined with excellent sealing performance.  They will withstand high pressures and large extrusion gaps.  The injection side seal is 1075 mm in diameter, and the platen side seal is 1545 mm in diameter.  Both seals are made of our specialty blended T08 PTFE/ Glass-Moly, which provides maximum wear resistance, and is ideal for higher frequency, short stroke applications.  A compression-molded energizer ensures consistent sealing performance and consistent load over the extended life of each seal.

A routine maintenance teardown provided us with the perfect opportunity for seal inspection.  After over 18,500 operating hours, there were no signs of seal compromise whatsoever — there was absolutely no leakage of hydraulic oil.
